The recent holiday shopping statistics have local stores across the nation rejoicing, and one expert says the party isn’t near from being over.

“While the news is terrific about how many consumers shopped locally this holiday season,” says a spokesman from FindUsLocal.com, a local business directory that offers free local business listings for locally owned shop, restaurants, and service businesses. “The good times are far from over. It’s true that Christmas is over, but people are still shopping, and most experts agree that local retailers will continue to see soaring sales into the New Year.”

He’s talking some recent statistics put out by Mastercard Advisors that say this year’s holiday sales increase by over 18 percent, and of that only about 11 or 12 percent of those sales went to online stores. The remaining money was spent in local businesses.

“But not every local business owner is going to benefit from all the local shopping,” he warns. “Today’s consumers look online when they want to find US local businesses, and those local shop owners who don’t have a business listing set up on a quality local business directory are likely missing out on a lot of sales.”

He says it’s not too late to cash in on some of the post-holiday shopping. “It only takes a minute to set up a local business listing so shoppers can find your business. Doing that one thing will ensure that the next time someone is looking for a business like yours, they’ll be able to find your store.”
